Abu Dhabi has announced the launch of the 'Abu Dhabi Global Water Platform,' aimed at financing quality development projects, attracting new investment opportunities, and supporting innovative initiatives that contribute to the development of the water sector worldwide. The platform seeks to attract total financing of two billion dollars, equivalent to 7.34 billion dirhams, from local and international financial institutions. The fund will also allocate the first tranche of one billion dollars (3.67 billion dirhams) over five years, from 2026 to 2030, targeting around 10 million beneficiaries worldwide. The platform aims to enhance water and food security in developing countries, enable communities to access clean and safe water, support innovative solutions and modern technologies in water resource management, and build international partnerships that foster cooperation and joint financing, support environmental sustainability, and improve quality of life, thereby highlighting the developmental role of the UAE on the global stage. The initiative also aligns with the sixth United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, which focuses on clean water and sanitation, supporting international efforts to address water scarcity challenges and promote collaborative work towards comprehensive and sustainable development for the world's peoples. The Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, stated that the launch of the 'Abu Dhabi Global Water Platform' embodies the Fund's commitment to supporting the wise leadership's approach to addressing the most impactful global development issues affecting communities' lives, noting that the launch is part of implementing the Fund's new 2030 strategy targets, focusing on supporting priority development sectors. He added: 'By launching the platform, we reaffirm our active commitment to the international community in supporting the global challenges facing this vital sector, aiming to ensure the sustainability of its resources so that future generations can enjoy a better life.'
